[투데이안] Jeonju City is holding a reading relay where citizens read Jeonju’s books of the year together.

The city announced on the 26th that it will run a reading relay using the ‘2024 Jeonju Book of the Year’ to create a reading atmosphere by reading books together and communicating with each other.

The ‘2024 Jeonju Book of the Year’ to be read with citizens is ▲ Because of Wrinkles (by Seoyoung, Multi-Picture Book (Kidari)) ▲ That Night We Were (written by Lee Na-young and illustrated by Haerang, Sigong Junior) ▲ Zelkova Tree Guardian (by Kim Joong-mi, Stone Pillow) ) ▲ A total of 4 books were selected, including The Season is Short and the Memories Are Forever (written by Lee Joo-hye, Changbi).

The Reading Relay begins with the first 150 participants, including ordinary citizens, receiving one book requested for each category. First-time applicants must pick up the books they requested within one week from the start date, the 26th, at the library where they wish to receive them.

Afterwards, the first runner to receive the book must read the book and leave a one-line review and a notification for the next runner in the ‘Reading Relay Corner’ of the Jeonju Reading Competition website (www.jjbook.kr).

The next runner who receives the book within 14 days can read the book in the same way and pass it on to the next runner.

The reading relay will run until August 31, and the last runner must return the books to the nearest city library before the end date.

Additionally, this year, for the first time, the ‘School Reading Relay’ is being held in six pre-selected elementary, middle, and high schools in the Jeonju area, where students in each class read in relay and submit verification photos.

In addition, following this reading relay, the city plans to continue the program using the ‘2024 Jeonju Book of the Year’ by recruiting participants for ‘100 Days of Writing’ until May 9.

Participants in the 100-day transcription will receive the book and transcription notes from the library where they wish to receive them starting May 16th, and then transcribe the book’s touching phrases or scenes in any format and length for 100 days.

Completed transcription notes must be returned to the nearest city library, and will be displayed at the ‘2024 Jeonju Reading Festival.’

In addition, the city will provide vivid reading culture experiences with this year’s book authors, including ▲ a meeting with author ‘Seoyoung’ in the children’s (illustration) category (May 25) ▲ a meeting with author ‘Kim Joong-mi’ in the youth category (July 13). We also provide a space for sharing.

Lee Kang-jun, head of the Jeonju City Library Division, said, “I think it will be a time to communicate and empathize with family and friends through books,” adding, “I hope that more citizens will gain valuable community experiences through reading and spread the culture of reading in their daily lives.”
