Cultivating the spirit of protecting Dokdo through various experiences using reading

(Bonghwa = International News) Reporter Baek Seong-ho = Beopjeon Jungang Elementary School (Principal Kim Ji-cheol) celebrates Dokdo Education Week (April 22-April 26) to recognize the importance of Dokdo, Korea’s precious territory, and to teach students about Dokdo. Various educational programs were implemented to instill understanding and affection.

In particular, we read two books, ‘I was born in Dokdo’ and ‘Letters from Dokdo,’ and conducted rich educational activities based on them.

During this Dokdo Education Week, students learned about Dokdo’s history, natural environment, and its importance through two books, and through this, their understanding and attachment to Dokdo deepened.

In addition, discussions based on the contents of the book that demonstrated students’ creative thinking and problem-solving skills, and an essay writing contest about Dokdo were held to provide students with an opportunity to think more deeply about Dokdo.

The 2nd grade students learned about Dokdo’s topography by making the ‘Dokdo Puzzle’, and the 3rd grade students made the ‘Dokdo, I love you wall clock’ to remind themselves of Dokdo every time. The 4th graders experienced the clean nature of Dokdo by planting ‘Dokdo Gaeunjuk’, and the 5th graders deeply understood the importance of Dokdo by making the ‘Dokdo Stylish Lighthouse’. Lastly, the 6th graders had time to express their creativity artistically through ‘Dokdo String Art’.

In addition, in order to provide students with opportunities to expand their knowledge of Dokdo, develop their affection for Dokdo, and demonstrate creativity and cooperation through various artistic activities, lunch and after-school hours are utilized to ‘Sing Dokdo Love Song’. We also prepared side events to increase interest and interest in Dokdo, such as the ‘Dokdo-related Quiz Contest’.

6th grade student Do “It was a good opportunity to exchange opinions and think about our role in protecting Dokdo,” he said.

Principal Kim Ji-cheol said, “I hope that students will have a proper understanding and affection for Dokdo through Dokdo Education Week, and I hope that they will continue to show interest in and learn about Dokdo in the future.”
