Recently, a whistleblower complaint from Kate Gourmet Korea (located in Jung-gu, Incheon), which manufactures and supplies in-flight meals, has been confirmed as true.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety found Gate Gourmet Korea violating the Food Sanitation Act as a result of a surprise inspection of the company on the 24th in relation to the JTBC report that there was a circumstance in manufacturing and supplying in-flight meals using raw materials that had expired. He said he would request an administrative disposition and conduct an investigation.

In July of last year, Gate Gourmet Korea was also found guilty of violating the Food and Drug Administration Act, such as manufacturing and supplying in-flight meals with ingredients past the expiration date.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said, “According to the report that Gate Gourmet Korea was still doing the same thing after last year’s discovery, hygiene inspection and food safety management certification standard (HACCP, hereinafter referred to as HACCP) investigation and evaluation were conducted on the 24th. The act of using ‘charcoal grilled ribs flavor sauce’ and ‘cream cheese’ in the manufacture of in-flight meals from the 1st to the 12th was detected, and it was confirmed that the in-flight meals made with the ingredients were delivered to Asiana and Etihad Airways.”

In addition, as a result of the HACCP investigation and evaluation, following last year’s non-compliance, it was judged to be non-compliant due to non-compliance with HACCP management standards, such as insufficient management of raw and subsidiary materials warehousing and release, and insufficient storage management standards.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety plans to re-examine violations of the Food and Drug Administration within 6 months after administrative measures are taken to confirm whether the violations have been improved, and for non-conforming HACCP results, it will be re-evaluated after corrective measures are completed.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said, “We will continue to crack down on violations of the Food and Drug Administration Act, such as unsanitary management of raw materials or the use of expired raw materials for food cooking, etc., to ensure that the public can consume safe food.”
