Nexon opened the ‘2022 Nexon Developers Conference (hereinafter referred to as NDC)’ online on the 8th, which is called the largest game industry knowledge sharing platform in Korea.

The NDC22 lecture, which will be held from the 8th to the 10th, can be viewed freely by anyone without registration through the NDC official website and YouTube channel. There are a total of 60 lectures (55 public sessions, 5 private sessions), covering topics in various fields such as metaverse & NFT, programming, data analysis, and career.

Prior to the full-scale event, Nexon CEO Owen Mahoney said, “The NDC team has put a lot of effort into creating a beneficial program.” .

Next, he did not forget about the late founder Kim Jung-ju. He said, “All those who have had a lot of friendship with the deceased are healing the pain of losing an old friend.” He said, “As the founder has always been a great inspiration to Nexon, there is no way to stop feeling sad and hopeless.”

The late founder Kim Jeong-ju pioneered the online MMORPG genre through ‘The Kingdom of the Winds’ in 1996 and tried the world’s first partially paid game through ‘Quiz Quiz’. The partial payment model led to an innovation called in-game virtual currency.

Today, the world’s leading tech companies combine the aforementioned innovations and express them in the term ‘metaverse’, but it is difficult to define the term. CEO Owen said, “In light of this, the deceased was more than just a pioneer, he made a mark in the history of entertainment.”

Emphasizing the comment that “stinginess is short, every moment is important,” he said, “The people who attended today’s conference have an important opportunity to lead the change in the future.” I hope that NDC will be a good experience for everyone, as it will be spread throughout the country.”

This year, industry workers and related experts will gather to explore the future development direction of the game from various perspectives and pass on the technical experience and know-how accumulated during the actual development process.

Kang Dae-hyun, COO of Nexon, who gave a keynote under the theme of ‘Blockchain and the Evolution of the Virtual World’, discussed the characteristics of blockchain technology and appropriate game design methods, and discussed its potential as an ‘integrated platform’ that goes beyond the physical limitations of the existing virtual world. talked

Regarding ‘Play To Earn (hereinafter referred to as P2E)’, which is currently a hot topic, COO Kang said, “When I focus on the potential of blockchain itself, I believe that the possibilities that an open ecosystem brings are limitless.” “Blockchain technology is a closed ecosystem of games.” It is a means of expanding the ecosystem into an open ecosystem.”

According to COO Kang’s explanation, blockchain technology was an attractive factor for Nexon in terms of the evolution of the virtual world.

He said, “It is a time when bold attempts in new areas are needed rather than looking negatively at the initial appearance of the industry.

In addition, the NFT-based ecosystem ‘MapleStory Universe’ using Nexon’s core IP, ‘MapleStory’, was prepared by surprise.

He said, “The MapleStory universe is a shared space for the MapleStory NFT, and we expect it to be a part of the evolution of the virtual world where the game and the blockchain world converge. Building an ecosystem that exists is what Nexon thinks of the evolved virtual world.”

In the newly added Metaverse & NFT field, Professor Seung-Joo Kim of Korea University, a blockchain expert, and Professor Sang-Kyun Kim of Kyunghee University, an authority on the domestic metaverse, will speak as speakers and discuss the development direction of the game.

In addition, we share insights gained from conducting related projects in companies such as Nexon Korea’s ‘Project MOD’ and Soonsoon Studio’s ‘Sperm’.

The development experience of recently released or planned new products is also disclosed. Developers such as ‘Prasia Electric’, ‘Kartrider: Drift’, and Project Magnum, which are being developed by Nexon Company, ‘Victory: Nike’, and ‘Thy Creature’, a growing seed, participated in the development process as speakers. Describe your concerns and attempts in detail.

In addition, employees from major game companies such as NCsoft, Epic Games Korea, Devsisters, Embarc Studios, and Wonder People will participate to give lectures on the latest technologies for making high-quality games and know-how for career growth of game industry talents.

Meanwhile, NDC, which started as an undisclosed in-house event in 2007 and converted to a public conference in 2011, has reached 240,000 cumulative visitors and has established itself as a representative game knowledge sharing platform for mutual growth in the industry. Up to now, 1,200 experts have been actively sharing game knowledge and experiences, giving about 1,000 lectures as speakers.
