The basic model of the BMW 5 Series Full Change has been unveiled on the official website of BMW Germany. The 8th generation 5 series has a larger body size compared to the previous generation, and features a modern reinterpretation of BMW’s representative double headlamps and kidney grill. The new 5 series and electric car i5 will be released in Korea in October.

The 5 Series is BMW’s representative sedan that has sold more than 8 million units worldwide since its first introduction in 1972. On the 24th (local time), BMW held the world premiere of the new 5 Series with the M sports package. The new 5 series basic 520i can be found on the BMW Germany website.

Compared to the previous generation, the new 5 Series has a length of 97mm, a width of 32mm, a height of 36mm, and a wheelbase of 20mm. At the front, BMW’s signature double headlamps and kidney grille are reinterpreted and installed in a modern way. Top trims offer the Iconic Glow option, which is an illuminated grille like the 7 Series.

On the side, a dynamic silhouette is realized through black side skirts and two character lines. The C-pillar extends to the back of the body, and the flatness of the rear tail lamp is emphasized. The basic front and rear bumpers and 18-inch wheel design are somewhat more comfortable compared to the M sports package.

Inside, a BMW curved display consisting of a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 14.9-inch center fascia display, and a toggle-type gear lever were applied. In particular, completely vegan materials were used for the first time in the 5 series, and Veganza seats with a leather-like texture are standard. Merino leather is optional.

The new 5 Series comes standard with the BMW Driving Assistant Professional, which includes level 2 semi-autonomous driving, automatic parking, and 3D surround view. It supports QuickSelect, which allows the driver to immediately select the desired function, BMW’s latest infotainment system 8.5, and game functions.

The new 5-series gasoline 520i combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline turbo engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission to produce a maximum output of 208 horsepower and a maximum torque of 33.7 kgm. It accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. The diesel 520d produces a maximum output of 197 horsepower. A 48V mild hybrid is standard.

Meanwhile, the electric car i5 introduced in the new 5 series is operated with the M60 xDrive and eDrive40. The M60 is four-wheel drive, with a combined total output of 601 horsepower, and zero-back in 3.8 seconds. The eDrive40 is rear-wheel drive. The maximum output is 340 horsepower, and zero-back is 6 seconds. When fully charged, the WLTP-based mileage is 516 km and 582 km, respectively.
