Samsung Electronics (005930)has maintained its position as a ‘global top 5’ brand for four consecutive years with a brand value of $91.4 billion (approximately 117.6 trillion won). Hyundai Motor Company (32nd) surpassed $20 billion in brand value, raising its ranking by three places.
On the 21st, Interbrand, a global brand consulting company, announced the top 100 global brands. Among domestic companies, Samsung Electronics (5th), Hyundai Motors (32nd), and Kia (88th) were named.
Despite the slump in the global information technology (IT) industry, Samsung Electronics’ brand value rose evenly across all business sectors, including mobile phones, TVs, home appliances, networks, and semiconductors. The company jumped from 17th place in 2011 to 9th place the following year, and has steadily improved its ranking to 6th place in 2017 and 5th place in 2020. From 2012 to this year, it has been ranked in the top 10 brands for 12 consecutive years, and in the top 5 brands since 2020. Among the five major brands, Samsung Electronics is the only non-US company.
Hyundai Motor Company ranked 32nd with a brand value of $20.4 billion (about 26.2 trillion won). Since its first entry in 2005 at 84th place, its ranking has grown by 52 places and its value has grown by $16.9 billion until this year. Kia’s brand value increased 7% from the previous year to $759 million (about 970 billion won).
In this ranking, Apple, Microsoft (MS), Amazon, and Google ranked 1st to 4th. The rankings of companies ranked 1st to 5th, including Samsung Electronics, were the same as last year. Among domestic companies, in addition to Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor Company (32nd) was ranked.
Lee Young-hee, head of global marketing at Samsung Electronics (president), said, “We will continue to strive to become a brand more loved by customers through differentiated connection experiences, future technology leadership, and various activities to increase sustainability.”
