Fixing the cost of food… New quota tariffs applied to cabbage and seaweed

[앵커]

Recently, the prices of not only agricultural and marine products but also processed foods have been rising, so much so that some say that shopping for groceries is scary.

In order to control the sharp rise in food prices, the government decided to expand the application of tariff quotas, focusing on agricultural, livestock, fishery and processed foods whose prices have risen significantly.

This is an internet community where self-employed people gather.

There are countless posts complaining that the price of cabbage is crazy, that it seems to be the highest price ever in their lives.

This is because the price of cabbage, which was 3,744 won per head at this time of year, has now jumped 51.8% to 5,684 won.

As the prices of various agricultural and marine products were not set, the government decided to apply tariff quotas to five types, including cabbage and grapes, and push ahead with the process to ensure that tariff reductions are supplied next month.

Among processed foods, it was announced that tariff quotas would be applied to cocoa beans and seasoned seaweed, whose prices have recently risen, to reduce the cost burden on the industry.

In addition, we plan to support delivery prices ranging from 750 won to 2,000 won for 25 expensive items such as tomatoes and carrots.

It has been decided to supply all government stockpiles of six fish species, including pollack, mackerel, and squid, within this month.

The government urged the food industry to “participate in easing the burden on the public by quickly reflecting the cost reduction in product prices as tariffs on food raw materials are being lowered and international grain prices have stabilized.”

They also announced that they would strengthen market surveillance in the food sector, including price fixing by companies.
