The ‘big hand’ who spent hundreds of millions on ‘Friend’ turns out to be a cheater… Deceived viewers into living a luxurious life and evading taxes

--

The National Tax Service (Director Kim Chang-gi) has begun a tax investigation against 21 people suspected of new online tax evasion, including online adult broadcasters, entertainment companies, BJs, and sellers of used luxury goods disguised as non-business people.

According to the National Tax Service on the 23rd, the National Tax Service has recently been taking strict action against new types of tax evasion that exploit the characteristics of the online environment, where it is difficult to verify the user’s real name and track income. In relation to this, the National Tax Service is conducting tax investigations on 12 cases of so-called ‘friends’ broadcasting companies, entertainment companies and BJs, 5 cases of sellers of luxury goods and other items in online second-hand markets, and 4 cases of YouTubers who received unfair tax reductions.

‘Beotbang’ is an abbreviation for ‘naked broadcast’, and refers to an online adult broadcast where BJ takes off his clothes and exposes his body. Friend rooms, which are popular these days, are structured in such a way that an agency recruits and manages BJs and broadcasts them in real time on the friend room broadcaster’s website or mobile app. Viewers communicate with BJ through chat and sponsor paid items, and BJ differentially shows obscene acts such as body exposure and depictions of sexual acts depending on the amount of item sponsorship by viewers.

Some agencies took advantage of the fact that viewers’ real names were not revealed during broadcasts, pretending to be viewers and sponsoring BJs worth hundreds of millions of won, encouraging other viewers to donate larger amounts out of competition. General viewers who were unaware of this situation supported BJ, even taking out loans to get BJ’s attention.

The owners and BJs of these close broadcasting companies and entertainment companies use the income they earned by deceiving viewers to enjoy a luxurious life, including luxury goods, foreign cars, and luxury apartments, while collecting false tax invoices or accounting for false expenses by making it look like they paid labor expenses to relatives. , is suspected of evading the entire value-added tax by disguising itself as a tax-exempt business even though it is a taxable business.

Shin Jae-bong, head of the National Tax Service’s investigation and analysis department, said, “We have confirmed the circumstances in which each agency purchased paid items worth hundreds of millions of won with corporate funds,” and added, “Through a tax investigation, we will confirm whether these are expenses generally recognized for tax purposes.”

Pawnbrokers who sold a large number of expensive used luxury goods pretending to be non-businessmen in online second-hand markets such as Carrot Market, Junggonara, and Beongae Market are also subject to investigation. It was confirmed that they evaded taxes by selling more than 1,800 items, including jewelry, bags, watches, and motorcycles, and hiding the 3.9 billion won they received without reporting it. YouTubers who have escaped the tax net by falsely registering businesses in shared offices, etc. are also investigated. These ‘information and communication industry’ business operators took advantage of the fact that they did not need an offline workplace and made it look like they were working in a ‘100% tax reduction’ area. The National Tax Service determined that the amount of tax they had unfairly reduced was approximately 1 billion won each.
