Nearly 700,000 people receiving more than 1 million won per month in national pension… What is the maximum amount

It was found that the number of people receiving national pension of more than 1 million won per month has approached 700,000.

According to the National Pension Service’s ‘National Pension Publication Statistics’ on the 26th, there were 687,183 people receiving national pension of more than 1 million won per month as of the end of December last year. There are 655,826 men and 31,357 women.

By type of benefit, recipients of old-age pension (a general form of national pension received upon reaching pension age) accounted for the majority at 680,646. In addition, 4,560 people received survivor pension and 1,977 people received disability pension.

Currently, people who have subscribed to the national pension for at least 10 years can receive the old-age pension when they turn 63. The number of recipients of over 1 million won per month in old-age pension was first introduced in 2007, and has steadily increased to 129,502 in 2016, 201,592 in 2018, 340,369 in 2020, 430,531 in 2021, and 567,149 in 2022. The trend is increasing.

For the national pension, the longer the subscription period and the higher the premium paid, the larger the pension amount. More than 70% of recipients of old-age pensions worth more than 1 million won per month had been enrolled in the national pension for more than 20 years.

There were 17,810 people receiving more than 2 million won per month. The first case of receiving national pension of more than 2 million won per month occurred in January 2018. It has been 30 years since the national pension system was implemented in 1988. Afterwards, it increased to 1,355 people in 2021 and 5,410 people in 2022, and again increased by about 3.3 times in one year. The highest recipient of the national pension receives 2,664,660 won per month.

Meanwhile, the total number of old-age pension recipients is 5,457,689. There were 986,694 people receiving survivor’s pension and 69,157 people receiving disability pension. The average pension amount is 620,300 won per month for old-age pension, 342,283 won per month for survivor pension, and 504,607 won per month for disability pension.
