JYP “Legal action in case of defamation and insult to Nayeon”
Girl group Twice’s Nayeon (real name Lim Na-yeon, 28) won a ‘debt default’ lawsuit worth 600 million won.
According to the legal community on the 19th, the 13th Civil Affairs Division of the Seoul Eastern District Court (Chief Director Choi Yong-ho) ruled that Mr. A lost in the lawsuit he filed against Nayeon and Nayeon’s mother for the loan amount. Mr. A is Nayeon’s mother’s former lover.
The court acknowledged that Mr. A had transferred more than 500 million won to Nayeon over 12 years, but judged that there was insufficient evidence to recognize this as a loan.
According to the ruling, Mr. A sent 535,908,275 won to Nayeon over a 12-year period from August 2004 to June 2016. Additionally, Nayeon and Nayeon’s mother paid 115,612,093 won with a credit card in Mr. A’s name over a six-year period from March 2009 to February 2015.
Nayeon debuted as a member of Twice in October 2015.
Mr. A filed a lawsuit in January last year, saying, “I must repay the 600 million won I borrowed from Nayeon.” She said, “She lent Nayeon the necessary funds, including living expenses, at the request of Nayeon’s mother.” She said, “She promised to repay the money when Nayeon, who was her trainee, debuted as a singer. He stated the reason for the lawsuit, saying, “This promise was broken.”
However, the court ruled in favor of Nayeon, saying, “In light of the number, period, amount, and circumstances of the financial transactions, it is difficult to say that Mr. A and Nayeon agreed to return the money.”
In addition, “Considering that Mr. A and Nayeon’s mother were in a romantic relationship at the time, we cannot conclude that this was a loan,” and “Considering that the items are monthly rent, communication fees, loans, and tuition, it can be seen that it was paid for living expenses. “It was ruled.
Mr. A did not appeal separately after losing.
Nayeon’s agency, JYP Entertainment, said in relation to this, “The ruling has already been finalized and concluded, so we have nothing to say as it has nothing to do with the artist’s entertainment activities.” However, they also added, “Afterwards, the issue of defaming or insulting the artist through speculative posts, etc. “We will take firm legal action against this,” he announced.
