“It’s in the closet at my house?” Luxury ‘frog suit’ worth 10 million won appears

French luxury brand Balenciaga has released a new jacket and pants with a design similar to past combat uniforms, also known as ‘frog suits.’

According to the fashion industry on the 26th, Balenciaga introduced ‘Dark Camo Biker Army Jacket Dark Green’ as the 51st look of the ‘Summer 24 Collection’ on its official website. Pre-orders are currently being accepted and the price is 6.49 million won. The bottom of the sleeves and the bottom of the jacket have turned white as if worn, and there are holes in them. Balenciaga described it as a “vintage and dirty effect.” The left pocket has Balenciaga embroidery.

Large cargo pants made of dark green cotton ripstop material also feature the same pattern design. The price is 3.83 million won. The total of the two products is 10.32 million won.

At first glance, it looks no different from the spotted combat uniform known as the ‘frog uniform’. The combat uniform was used from the 1990s to 2014. It was later replaced by a digitally patterned combat uniform.

Balenciaga has previously presented ‘geek’-like fashion, such as sublimating everyday objects into fashion items or having models wearing old clothes stand on the runway.

In 2022, a garbage bag-shaped pouch and worn and dirty sneakers were released for around 2.4 million won. The price of the potato chip bag-shaped clutch bag released in 2023 was around 2.5 million won.

In this year’s fall/winter collection, tape-shaped bracelets were sold for around 4 million won.

Some people evaluated Balenciaga’s steady progress as a joke to the secular fashion world. Balenciaga designer Demna Gvasalia said, “Fashion has to be radical,” adding, “Otherwise it’s just a scam trying to trick people into opening their wallets.”
