Netizens were outraged when the news was revealed that idol Sho Hirano, who had made anti-Korean remarks on a broadcast in the past, was selected as an advertising model for a product released by a Korean cosmetics company.

On the 28th, Professor Seo Gyeong-deok of Sungshin Women’s University said on his Instagram, “Japanese media Oricon News reported that Sho Hirano was selected as an advertising model for a hair care line launched by a Korean cosmetics company.”

Professor Seo further explained, “The company that conducts cosmetics and beauty-related business in Korea and Japan hired Sho Hirano as a model for the Japanese side.”

Sho Hirano visited Korea in March last year and received criticism from domestic netizens for his actions, including spewing out anti-Korean remarks. For example, he expressed his visit to Korea as tomorrow (來日, visiting Japan). This remark was made with the intention that since Korea is a colony of Japan, a visit to Korea would be no different from a visit to Japan.

This wasn’t the only story he had. Sho Hirano’s first greeting on the air was “Sweetheart,” and he ignored Korea by saying, “Look, there are surprisingly tall buildings.” In addition, in Korean he knew, he said things like “Woah I ni” and “Beijing duck.”

When asked where the capital of Korea was, he said “Baku.” He is believed to have been referring to Park, the representative surname of Korea.

Professor Seo pointed out, “No matter how important business is, a Korean company that selects a local celebrity who makes hateful remarks as a model is ignoring its own citizens.”

He also said, “It is the company’s freedom to choose a model, but we must keep in mind that using a Japanese model that ignores Korea will be the first to be shunned by its own people.”

Hirano was recently selected as a model for the domestic cosmetics company ‘Wonjungyo Hair’.

Netizens who saw the post responded, “It’s shocking and surprising that it’s tomorrow,” “I’m really curious what company it is,” and “Ignorant Korean companies are scarier.”
