[용인=최승곤기자] In commemoration of the ’44th Day of Persons with Disabilities’, a festival for the development and harmony of visually impaired associations and members of 31 local governments in Gyeonggi-do was held at Mir Stadium in Yongin.

Yongin Special City announced on the 24th that the ‘Gyeonggi-do Visually Impaired One Mind Grand Festival’ was held at Mir Stadium in Samga-dong, Cheoin-gu on the 23rd to commemorate the ’44th Day of the Disabled.’

About 1,000 visually impaired people, their families, and facility officials from 31 cities and counties in the province participated in this event, which was hosted by the Gyeonggi Association of the Visually Impaired and organized by the Yongin City Branch of the Gyeonggi Association of the Visually Impaired.

Jeong Tae-gon, chairman of the Gyeonggi Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired, presented a plaque of appreciation to Yongin Special Mayor Sang-il Lee for his efforts to improve the welfare of the visually impaired.

Yongin Special Mayor Lee Sang-il said, “During my time as mayor, we increased the welfare budget despite the austerity fiscal situation in order to realize welfare policies that make all citizens happy, with the goal of creating a living community that respects and cares for each other regardless of whether or not the disabled.” “We will establish policies to guarantee the right of movement, improve the office of the Yongin City Branch of the Federation of the Blind, and create a space to provide emergency care services for students with disabilities.”

Mayor Lee said, “In December 2022, President Yoon Seok-yeol praised the signs saying ‘Let’s love guide dogs’ at each public facility in Yongin, and the city is actively working to improve social awareness of guide dogs that serve as eyes for the visually impaired. He emphasized, “During my term as mayor, I will create a city where people with disabilities can enjoy a happy life without discrimination.”

The event began with a pre-ceremony performance, followed by an opening declaration, followed by the awarding of citations, the presentation of scholarships, and congratulatory remarks.

The Yongin City Branch of the Gyeonggi City Association for the Blind was selected as a model branch and received a commendation, and Mr. Park No-il, a member of the Yongin City Branch, received a commendation from the Governor of Gyeonggi Province. Mayor Lee Sang-il awarded commendations to Oh Jeong-hwan and Han Cheol-soo of the Yongin City Branch, praising them for volunteering for the visually impaired and overcoming their disabilities to set an example for others.

Jeong Tae-gon, president of the Gyeonggi Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired, said, “We will strive to promote the welfare and rights of many visually impaired people in Gyeonggi-do,” and added, “Thank you to Mayor Lee Sang-il and the association members who visited the event venue that day with deep interest and affection for the visually impaired.” “It does,” he said.
