Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Lee Cheol-woo) announced that it was finally selected for the contest for ‘Establishing a support base for the development of electric light-duty special vehicles tailored to demand’ hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology).
The ‘Establishment of a support base for the development of electric light-duty special vehicles tailored to demand’ project selected this time is a project organized by the Institute for Advanced Study (IAE) in cooperation with Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and Hoengseong-gun, with the participation of the Korea Automobile Research Institute and Gangwon Techno Park, and in 2028. A total project cost of 19.8 billion won is scheduled to be invested in the Gadam-ri area of Hoengseong-gun.
This project supports the construction of component performance test and evaluation equipment and the production of light PBV prototypes for the transition to electrically driven light PBVs by internal combustion engine-oriented automobile manufacturers and related small and medium-sized parts companies.
This project aims to secure the competitiveness of domestic small and medium-sized companies to respond to the future era of electric vehicles, and to support entry into the ASEAN market by not only revitalizing the distribution of electric-powered light PBVs in Korea but also developing vehicles suited to the usage environment of overseas ASEAN countries.
In addition, this public offering project is expected to add a synergy effect to the ‘creation of an e-mobility industry cluster in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province’ in connection with the six projects related to the creation of an ‘e-mobility research and demonstration complex’ currently being promoted in Mukgye-ri, Hoengseong-gun.
Nam Jin-woo, Director of the Industry Bureau of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, said, “To foster Gangwon’s future car industry, we have been promoting related projects step by step, such as creating an e-mobility industry cluster centering on Hoengseong-gun and creating a base city for autonomous driving demonstration and commercialization, and with this government-funded project selected this time, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province “We expect that the autonomous e-mobility industry will gain further momentum, and we will do our best to ensure that it is successful,” he said.
