[한국대학신문 이정환 기자] Professor Shin Hae-jin of Chonnam National University was selected as the winner of the 6th Korea Scholar Award.

Professor Shin Hae-jin (Department of Korean Language and Literature) at Chonnam National University was selected as the winner of this award in recognition of his contribution to exemplary succession of the modern scholarly spirit through academic achievements and social contributions.

The award ceremony will be held at the ‘Yeongju Korean Scholar Culture Festival’ on May 4th.

The ‘Scholarship Grand Prize’ is an award given by the city of Yeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do to an individual or group that has contributed to academic research promoting the scholarly spirit, embodying the scholarly ideology, and practicing the scholarly spirit.

Professor Shin Hae-jin has carried on the scholarly spirit in practice through the study of Chinese classics and the preservation of cultural heritage, and has especially fulfilled his academic responsibility by translating texts from the 17th century period of national suffering.

By publishing over 100 academic books and translations, it has provided a foundation for research on cultural history, regional history, and everyday history, and has contributed to promoting communication between the past and present as well as spreading the value of humanities.

Professor Shin, who has served in key positions in over 20 academic societies for the development of universities and academic organizations, and has worked hard to nurture younger students, plans to continue his academic journey as a ‘research chair professor’ even after retirement in August.
