At approximately 5:50 PM yesterday, an urgent 112 call was received from an apartment complex in Yangsan-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju.

The story states that Mr. A, a man in his 50s, stabbed his son in his 30s with a weapon.

The district police officers who arrived at the scene immediately began arresting Mr. A, but when Mr. A did not put down the weapon, they fired a Taser gun.

Mr. A, who was hit with two Taser electrode needles on his buttocks and back, was subdued in two minutes.

The son, who was seriously injured after being stabbed in the shoulder, chest, and side with a weapon wielded by Mr. A, was taken to a university hospital and underwent surgery.

It was reported that the son was in a non-life-threatening condition, but did not immediately regain consciousness.

The police arrested Mr. A on suspicion of attempted murder and took him to the police station in about 40 minutes.

However, two minutes after arriving at the police station, Mr. A, who was about to be interrogated, suddenly showed symptoms of difficulty breathing and began to lose consciousness.

The police performed CPR and called a 119 ambulance to take Mr. A to the hospital.

However, Mr. A, who arrived at the hospital around 6:55 p.m., eventually died about 30 minutes later.

The police reviewed medical records and requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service, saying, “There is a statement that Mr. A had chronic cardiovascular diseases, including high blood pressure, during his lifetime.”

We also plan to investigate whether there is a causal relationship between the use of the Taser gun, arrest, and transportation process and Mr. A’s death.

In addition, we believe that the deceased, Mr. A, had recently experienced a conflict with his family, and we are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.

However, since Mr. A, who was caught red-handed, has died, it appears that the case will be closed with ‘no right to prosecute.’

A police official said, “There is a time gap of more than 30 minutes between the time Mr. A was hit by the Taser and the time he lost consciousness after arriving at the police station,” and added, “I believe the exact cause of death will be known only after the autopsy results are released.”
