[경인매일=권태경기자] Gyeonggi Province will be recruiting participants for the first half of the ‘Gyeonggi Future School Trip’ program on a first-come, first-served basis starting May 2.

‘Gyeonggi Future School Trip’ is an on-site experiential education program where about 80 youth from Gyeonggi-do and Gwangju Metropolitan City visit each other’s regions to improve understanding of local culture and coexistence and cooperation, and think together about regional stories and future problems. It is a program that promotes exchange.

In May last year, Gyeonggi Province and Gwangju Metropolitan City announced a mutual development agreement for mutual prosperity, including ‘joint promotion of education and exchange programs to support the dreams of Korea’s youth.’

The selection targets for this Gyeonggi Province are elementary and middle school students who live in bordering areas such as Paju City, Pocheon City, and Yeoncheon County and receive priority support for educational welfare. Schools wishing to participate must submit electronic documents to the School of Education and Welfare.

The first half of the event was held for three days from June 26th to 28th, when Gyeonggi-do youth visited Gwangju Metropolitan City and participated in a May 18 historical tour with Gwangju Metropolitan City youth, a visit and explanation of the Yangnim-dong History and Culture Village, astronomical projection observation, and a memory photo exhibition to promote understanding of the region. We plan to carry out mutual exchange activities with.

Meanwhile, this October, we plan to invite youth from Gwangju Metropolitan City to the Paju Campus of Gyeonggi Future Education located in Paju, Gyeonggi-do, and participate in a visit to the DMZ and Camp Greaves, a tour of the Unification Observatory, a future issue debate, a peace sensitivity lecture, and theater activities.

Cho Tae-hoon, head of the Gyeonggi Province Lifelong Education Department, said, “I hope that this Gyeonggi Future School Trip will go beyond simple tourism and become a valuable opportunity for the youth, the future generation of Korea, to share awareness of the local problems they face and realize the importance of peace and harmony.” revealed.
