Green Umbrella, a child welfare professional organization, will hold the 2024 ‘4th Korea Children’s Awards’, Korea’s only children’s rights awards ceremony that awards people and organizations that have contributed to the promotion of children’s rights.

The ‘Korea Children’s Awards’ is an awards ceremony in which children directly participate in the entire process, from nominations to voting and awards, to select winners. Last year, about 30,020 children participated in the ‘3rd Korea Children’s Awards’ through polling stations and online polling stations in 23 regions nationwide. This year, in order to create awareness that ‘May is the month when children vote,’ the campaign participation process was reorganized, including increasing the number of on-site polling stations to 30 and adjusting the award categories from 8 to 6.

From December of last year to February of this year, Green Umbrella went through a preliminary survey, discussion, and anonymous voting process by 239 members of the Green Umbrella Children’s Rights Advocates group, and was awarded ‘Novelist’ in a total of 6 categories (children, adults, stars, content, good companies, and legislation). 16 winners of the year were selected. Next, the ‘Best Award Winner’ who received the most votes in each category will be selected through voting during the month of May.

Voting takes place from April 25th to May 22nd. Any child under the age of 18 can participate in voting through the online polling place on the Green Umbrella official website. Offline polling places will be operated at the Lotte World Adventure South Gate on May 4 and 5, and at the Seoul World Cup Stadium North Gate Plaza on May 19. In addition, a total of 28 regional offline polling places will be operated in the Gyeonggi, Incheon, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, Jeonnam, Chungcheong, and Jeju areas. The voting results will be announced at the awards ceremony on June 21.

Green Umbrella Chairman Hwang Young-ki said, “The ‘Korea Children’s Awards’ is the only children’s rights award ceremony in Korea where children actively participate in the entire process and directly select the winners.” He added, “We want to spread the stories of those who are working to improve children’s rights in our country. “I hope this will become a starting point for many people to think about children’s rights.”
