“The Saemaeul Movement will become the pride of the Republic of Korea.”

This is the inauguration of Seong Nak-gu, the 21st president of the Chungcheongnam-do Saemaeul Association. On the 24th, the Provincial Village Association held the ’14th Saemaul Day Commemoration Ceremony and Provincial President Inauguration Ceremony’ at the main auditorium of the Provincial Office Cultural Center. In addition, an inauguration ceremony for the Disaster Volunteer Group was also held.

The event was attended by about 600 people, including South Chungcheong Governor Kim Tae-heum, Chungnam Provincial Assembly members including Chairman Cho Gil-yeon, National Assembly member-elect Kang Seung-gyu, standing representative Kim Yong-ki, Chungnam Saesamo members, and provincial, city, and county Saemaeul Association executives and members. The event was held in the following order: an opening declaration, national ceremony, awarding of a merit plaque and merit plaque to the outgoing president, inauguration speech, presentation of Saemaul badge, congratulatory speech, congratulatory performance, disaster relief volunteer group inauguration ceremony, and singing of Saemaul song.

New Chairman Seong Nak-gu said in his inauguration speech, “The Saemaeul Movement, which started in April 1970, was recognized by the international community for its achievements and was registered as a UNESCO Memory of the World in June 2013,” and added, “The Chungnam Saemaeul Association has also achieved great success with the people of the province for 54 years.” “I achieved it,” he said. He continued, “On Saemaul Day, I convey my resolve to live well spiritually and culturally,” and emphasized, “The Saemaul Movement will become the pride of the Republic of Korea.”

In his congratulatory address, Governor Kim Tae-heum said, “It is the Saemaul spirit that has made Korea what it is today. “The main players are all of you and our seniors gathered here,” he said, adding, “Let’s all work together to sustain the developed country that we have created, the Republic of Korea.”

Provincial Chairman Cho Gil-yeon said, “The Chungnam Saemaeul Association has taken the lead in resolving various social problems,” and promised, “The Provincial Council will not stop providing the necessary support.”

President-elect Kang Seung-gyu said, “The Saemaul Movement is the foundation of Korea’s growth,” and added, “I will also run with the Chungnam Saemaul family.”

Chungcheongnam-do Saemaeul Association is an organization established to contribute to regional development based on diligence, self-help, and cooperation and to display the spirit of Chungcheongnam-do through volunteer work. The number of members in the province is 193,996. The main projects are △support for scholarships for children of Saemaul leaders, △support for practical Saemaul leader training projects, △support for Saemaul Movement international cooperation projects, and △care activities for the elderly living alone.
