(Chuncheon = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Hae-yong = Gangwon-do has begun helping out in rural areas as the farming season is in full swing.

On the afternoon of the 25th, the province held an inauguration ceremony for the Agricultural Human Resources Support Corps in Hwaji-ri, Cheorwon-eup, with Governor Kim Jin-tae, Cheorwon County Mayor Lee Hyeon-jong, related organizations, and university students in attendance.

Governor Kim said, “No matter how mechanized the rural areas are, the reality is that farming requires human hands.” He added, “We will support the operation of human resources support volunteer groups, allocation of seasonal workers, and operation of human resources brokerage centers without disruption to avoid difficulties due to lack of rural manpower.” “he said.

Governor Kim boarded a rice transplanter, experienced the rice planting process, and heard about the difficulties faced in the agricultural field.

This year, the province plans to support 12,000 people by continuously recruiting manpower through the Helping Hands Support Center along with cities and counties.

Any related agency, organization, public official, university, or volunteer who wishes to help in rural areas can participate.

After the launch ceremony, Governor Kim visited the Hwaji-ri area, which was recently removed from the military facility protection zone.

The area in Cheorwon that was lifted from the restricted protection zone in February was 3 million square meters, equivalent to 420 soccer fields.

Cheorwon-gun complained to Governor Kim that it was experiencing many difficulties in regional development because 95% of its total area was designated as a military facility protection zone.

The province is currently investigating areas subject to change or cancellation of the Civilian Control Line and military facility protection zones to improve military regulations, and plans to select priority areas and make recommendations to military units at the same time as the Gangwon Special Act goes into effect in June.

He emphasized, “The military regulations in Cheorwon-gun, which were lifted last February, are a signal that the improvement of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province’s regulations is starting in earnest. We will not only make improvements in words, but will allow residents to enjoy the joy of directly exercising their property rights and directly lead to the revitalization of the local economy.”
