In commemoration of the 2nd Climate Change Week, Gyeonggi Province announced on the 26th that it will hold an online campaign called ‘Defend the Earth’s Life Temperature of 1.5℃ with RE100’ to urge the National Assembly and government to enact the ‘3 RE100 Act’ by the end of May.

In April last year, Gyeonggi Province announced the ‘Gyeonggi RE100’ vision, which includes the goal of expanding the proportion of new and renewable energy generation to 30% by 2030.

The three RE100 laws are the institutional foundation for implementing RE100 in Gyeonggi Province. △Revision of the ‘New and Renewable Energy Act’ to realize RE100 nationally △Enactment of the tentatively named ‘Agricultural Solar Power Support Act’ to realize RE100 in rural areas △Revision of the ‘Industrial Cluster Act’ to realize RE100 in industrial complexes.

Specifically, the revision to the New and Renewable Energy Act contains provisions for the expansion of renewable energy, such as specifying a 30% renewable energy power generation target for 30 years and abolishing unreasonable solar panel separation distance regulations. The revision of the tentatively named Agricultural Solar Power Support Act contains provisions such as providing special provisions for the installation of solar power facilities so that the expansion of renewable energy can be promoted centered on farmers. The main focus of the amendment to the Industrial Cluster Act is the establishment of a new and renewable energy plan when establishing a new industrial complex development plan and mandating the installation of solar power for tenant companies.

As a result of the enactment and amendment of the RE100 3 laws, Gyeonggi Province will achieve the national goal of 30% in the proportion of new and renewable energy generation in 2030, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 23 million tons, produce a production inducement effect of about KRW 133 trillion, and induce added value. It is estimated that there will be an economic ripple effect of approximately 48 trillion won, employment creation effect of approximately 472,000 people.

You can participate in the online campaign ‘Defend the Earth’s Life Temperature of 1.5℃ with RE100’ until May 30th through the Gyeonggi-do website (News → Gyeonggi-do Today → More Opportunities). Participants will be entered into a drawing to receive various prizes such as electric bicycles, zero waste, and coffee coupons.
