The Senior Public Officials Crime Investigation Office plans to summon Yoo Jae-eun, a legal officer at the Ministry of National Defense, today to investigate.

This is the first subpoena investigation of key suspects in three months since the Corruption Investigation Office conducted a surprise search and seizure of the Ministry of National Defense in January.

Legal Affairs Officer Yoo is a key figure who appears at each stage of the suspicion of external pressure in the ‘Marine Corps Corporal Chae’ case.

First, on July 31 last year, when former Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop suspended the Marine Corps investigation team’s transfer of the case to the police, Legal Affairs Manager Yoo was pointed out as having called the investigation team directly and told them to ‘reduce the number of suspects and postpone the transfer.’ .

Then, on August 2 last year, when the Ministry of National Defense recovered the case again after the Marine Corps investigation team forced the transfer of the case to the police, an executive at the Gyeongbuk Police Agency pointed out that “the person who called and requested the case be recovered was Legal Affairs Manager Yoo.” I did.

The Corruption Investigation Office has also obtained details of the phone call that Legal Affairs Manager Yoo had with Lee Si-won, Secretary to the President for Public Discipline, on this day.

When the Ministry of National Defense, which retrieved the case, reexamined the investigation records through the investigation headquarters, it was also confirmed that the investigation headquarters submitted an opinion saying, ‘Only the two battalion commanders should write down the charges.’

The Corruption Investigation Office plans to check with Legal Manager Yoo under whose instructions he was involved in each process and why he spoke to Secretary Lee Si-won.

The Corruption Investigation Office is also coordinating the investigation schedule with Park Kyung-hoon, acting director of the Ministry of National Defense’s investigation headquarters, who reviewed the investigation records.

It is expected that the Corruption Investigation Office will summon and investigate key suspects one by one, following Justice Manager Yoo.
