(Daily Daegu-Gyeongbuk News = Reporter Hwang Ji-hyeon) Rep. Noh Seong-hwan (Goryeong, People Power Party) of the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Council represented the ‘Gyeongsangbuk-do middle-aged and elderly farmers support ordinance bill’ to establish a legal basis for systematic support of middle-aged farmers in the province at the 346th extraordinary session. It was proposed.

The main contents of the ordinance include: △ specifying the legal basis for promoting practical support projects for middle-aged farmers living in rural areas; △ enabling the installation and operation of facilities to support and educate middle-aged farmers’ farming activities; and △ providing support for middle-aged and elderly farmers. The main goal is to establish a cooperative system with related institutions and organizations to efficiently promote farmer support policies.

Currently, the central government and local governments are gradually expanding support projects for young and elderly farmers to overcome the crisis of regional extinction and revitalize rural areas.

However, there is a relative lack of policy consideration for middle-aged farmers, who are the center and a large part of the rural economy, and various measures are being taken to promote sustainable development of agriculture and revitalization of rural areas by providing detailed policy support for them and increasing their expertise and productivity. This is required gradually.

Assemblyman Noh Seong-hwan, who proposed the ordinance, said, “Middle-aged farmers play a key role in the region as subjects of agricultural and rural development, but they currently lack support and consideration compared to young and elderly farmers.” He added, “Gyeongbuk Agriculture. “I hope that this will be a turning point where middle-aged farmers, who are the sustaining generation and play a pivotal role in the growth of the agricultural industry, can feel more proud and be more committed to regional development,” he said, expressing his feelings about the enactment.

Meanwhile, this ordinance will pass the review of the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council on April 24 and will be finalized at the Japanese meeting on May 3.
