The final selection is scheduled for the end of June after evaluation by the evaluation committee within the total project cost of 20 billion won.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that as a result of the contest for the ‘Gyeonggi The Dream Regeneration Project’, 14 cities from 11 cities and counties applied.

Through this contest, the province plans to revitalize declining areas of the original downtown and support opportunities for sustainable urban regeneration.

Gyeonggi The Dream Regeneration Project overcomes the limitations of existing urban regeneration projects that focus on physical projects and proposes various creative ideas tailored to local conditions with the resident community at the center. Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon focuses on regenerating the original city center. This is the 8th popularly elected Gyeonggi-do urban regeneration project.

For the project, a mid- to long-term urban regeneration roadmap was designed considering the capabilities of each region, and a public contest was conducted by dividing it into the foundation establishment stage, project promotion stage, and continuous operation stage so that the region can gradually change.

As a result of the contest held from January to April 24 of this year, 10 places applied for the infrastructure construction stage in which regions preparing for urban regeneration participate, and 4 places applied for the project promotion stage with the capabilities of urban regeneration entities.

Prior to accepting the public offering, Gyeonggi-do and the Gyeonggi-do Urban Regeneration Support Center have been conducting consulting with experts since February. This was a measure to make the business plans of the participating cities and counties more concrete and improve their completeness, and provided customized advice that reflected the diversity and specificity of the region.

The province will form an evaluation committee of experts in the urban regeneration field and finalize the project volume and cost for each stage within the range of 20 billion won in total project cost at the end of June through written and face-to-face evaluation, on-site inspection, and presentation evaluation procedures.

Jeong Jong-guk, head of the Gyeonggi Province Urban Regeneration Promotion Division, said, “We hope that this contest will bring about real change in the local community and become a model for sustainable development,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure that more regions can experience the benefits.”

Meanwhile, the province cooperated with cities, counties, and urban regeneration support centers to revitalize declining areas of the original downtown area in the province, and achieved the result of selecting 66 sites, the largest number in the country, for the government’s urban regeneration contest as of last year, and establishing a foundation for the 2023 Gyeonggi The Dream Regeneration Project contest. We have selected 11 locations in 10 cities and counties, including 7 in the stage, 3 in the project promotion phase, and 1 in the continuous operation phase, and have been actively carrying out the project since this year.
