Police conduct additional search and seizure of Lim Hyun-taek, president-elect of the Korean Medical Association

On the 26th, the police began an additional mandatory investigation into Lim Hyun-taek, the next president-elect of the Korean Medical Association (KMA). The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Public Crimes Investigation Unit announced that it had conducted an additional search and seizure of President-elect Lim from 10 a.m. on this day. President-elect Lim is accused of interfering with the government’s work by encouraging collective action among medical residents.

A police official explained the reason, saying, “It was confirmed that the cell phone secured during the first search and seizure was used by President-elect Lim in the past,” and “an additional compulsory investigation was conducted to secure the cell phone currently in use.” Previously, on the 1st of last month, the police executed the first search and seizure warrant on five former and current executives of the Korean Medical Association, including President-elect Lim.

The police are also securing data by seizing and searching the office of the Korean Association of Pediatrics in Mapo-gu, Seoul, which President-elect Lim used when he served as president in the past, and President-elect Lim’s actual residence in Asan, South Chungcheong Province.

The investigation into President-elect Lim follows the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s accusation by current and former executives of the Korean Medical Association. The police are investigating President-elect Lim, Kim Taek-woo, Emergency Committee Chairman of the Korean Medical Association, Joo Soo-ho, Emergency Committee Media and Public Relations Chairman, Park Myeong-ha, Emergency Committee Organizational Strengthening Committee Chairman, and Noh Hwan-gyu, former Chairman of the Korean Medical Association, on charges of violation of the order to commence work under the Medical Services Act and aiding and abetting obstruction of business.
