(Daily Daegu-Gyeongbuk News = Reporter Hwang Ji-hyeon) On April 24, the Education Committee of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council (Chairman Seung-oh Yoon) deliberated on the 1st supplementary budget and fund operation plan change for the 2024 Gyeongsangbuk-do Special Account for Education Expenses.

During the deliberation on this day, the members of the Board of Education passed an amendment to reduce the unnecessary budget by 1.9 billion won to the supplementary revised budget of 5.6445 trillion won, which is an increase of 190.4 billion won (3.5%) compared to the main budget. We delivered sharp questions and demands containing voices from the educational field to the Office of Education.

Regarding the delay in establishing the (tentative name) Early Childhood Education Promotion Center, Vice Chairman Jong-ho Yoon (Gumi) requested that it be carried out without a hitch as the expectations of the residents are high. He also said that he was particularly concerned about the risk of accidents on the access road, and requested measures to be taken.

Commissioner Kwon Gwang-taek (Andong) guided as many schools and students to participate with interest in the Glocal Future Education Fair and asked for interest in and preparation for future education, such as benchmarking best practices.

Commissioner Park Chae-ah (Gyeongsan) pointed out that the dormitory students’ transportation to and from school and weekend meals were not reflected in the fact-finding survey or budget, and requested improvement for the lack of follow-up measures for administrative audits, etc.

Commissioner Bae Jin-seok (Gyeongju) said there were concerns about confusion in schools related to digital education innovations such as the introduction of AI digital textbooks in 2025, and emphasized thorough preparation, including strengthening the capabilities of both teachers and students.

Regarding the operation of the high school credit system for special schools, Commissioner Son Hee-kwon (Pohang) emphasized active support to ensure that the system can be stably established in the field through teacher capacity building training and customized consulting.

Commissioner Jeong Han-seok (Chilgok) pointed out that the increase in yearbook fees was not included in the main budget in accordance with the ‘Ordinance on Supporting Educational Expenses for Students with Multiple Children’ in a timely manner, and requested accurate demand forecasting and appropriate timing of budget allocation.

Commissioner Cho Yong-jin (Gimcheon) emphasized systematic management from planning to facility standards when establishing special classes in general schools, and requested that special education students’ right to learning be guaranteed and their rights promoted.

Commissioner Cha Joo-sik (Gyeongsan) pointed out that prior consent was not obtained for private consignment of operation of the home gastric center, and emphasized that a hospital-type gastric center should be promoted in consultation with Gyeongsangbuk-do in addition to the home gastric center.

Commissioner Hwang Doo-young (Gumi) said there was a need to improve wrong practices such as parents paying for meals and snacks for school athletes, and emphasized the need for more active support measures for athletes.

Chairman Seung-Oh Yoon (Yeongcheon) ordered a closer review when preparing the budget, as the fact that the supplementary budget reduction amounted to 142.9 billion won could be seen as a myopic development of the business plan.
