[경인매일=최승곤기자] The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education’s International Education Institute announced that it had successfully completed the ‘Understanding the IB Program’ capacity building training for about 70 elementary and middle school principals and vice principals each.

This training, which was divided into principals from the 18th to the 19th and vice principals from the 25th to the 26th, was conducted as a face-to-face training camp at the education center.

The main courses include understanding the IB policy of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, understanding the International Baccalaureate, understanding the IB program model for each school level, the role of the principal (superintendent) of an IB operating school, and global etiquette classes.

In particular, it received a positive response from trainees as it consisted of a lecture sharing the vivid voices of a scholarship officer who promotes IB-related policies at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, a professor who researches the IB curriculum, and teachers who run the IB program in the field.

Lee Young-jong, principal of Danjeong Middle School, who participated in the training, said, “It was an opportunity to dispel prejudice against the existing IB program operation,” and added, “I want to gather opinions from the school community to introduce it to the school site.”

The institute expected that trainees would sympathize with the value and meaning of the IB program and concept-based classes and contribute greatly to proactively spreading in-depth classes linked to the 2022 revised curriculum in school settings.

Director Yoo Hye-young emphasized, “We will provide a variety of customized training for Gyeonggi Education members to activate the IB program for classes that bring out ideas, classes that foster learner initiative, and in-depth classes.”
