(Suwon = International News) Reporter Kim Man-gu = An unfamiliar scene emerged at the Provincial Council on the 26th, in which a Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member boldly encouraged public officials who are subject to regular audits to use vacation time.
Lee Byeong-sook, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, who spoke for five minutes at the closing plenary session of the April extraordinary session of the Provincial Council held this morning, pointed out that “the annual leave use rate of the province, the provincial council, and the provincial office of education over the past three years is only around 50%.”
Rep. Lee said, “The annual leave usage rate of national civil servants announced by the Ministry of Personnel Management in 2023 is 67%,” and argued, “The number of annual leave days used by public servants in Gyeonggi Province is too low.”
He then asked, “Many younger generations have entered public service, and organizational members have changed a lot, but don’t you think the organizational culture is that of the 80s and 90s?” and listed various systems such as annual leave savings, annual leave savings system, and long-term employment leave.
At the same time, he said, “The use of vacation freely by high-ranking public servants first must be established as a daily routine,” and “Chairman Yeom Jong-hyun, Governor Kim Dong-yeon, and Superintendent Lim Tae-hee should take the initiative and encourage bold use of annual leave.”
