The Incheon International Airport Police announced on the 26th that they plan to arrest A, a Chinese man in his 30s, on charges of special robbery, and request a red notice from Interpol for his accomplice, B, in his 30s, who fled to China.
At around 7:10 a.m. on the 20th, Mr. A and others sprayed the face of Mr. C, a Chinese businessman in his 40s who was visiting to reissue his airline ticket, in front of the departure hall on the 3rd floor of Incheon International Airport Passenger Terminal 1, and took away his bag containing US$90,000. He is suspected of running away. Victim C stated to the police, “The assailants were strangers, and my eyes stung when I was hit by the spray.”
The police, who began tracking the criminal, arrested Mr. A on a road in Bupyeong-dong, Buk-gu, Incheon, around 5:50 pm on the 25th. In addition, the remaining approximately $40,000 was recovered from the remittance to Mr. B, who had already left for China. At the time, the police also arrested a Chinese man in his 50s on charges of helping Mr. A escape.
According to the police, accomplice B fled to Shanghai, China by plane from Gimpo Airport around 12 noon on the day of the crime, and Mr. A remained in Korea alone and wandered around Daejeon and Gongju, South Chungcheong Province. Mr. C, who entered Korea on the 17th, is known to have kept a large amount of cash in his bag as he was engaged in a trading business selling cosmetics.
Mr. A and Mr. B entered the country through Incheon Airport the day after Mr. C entered the country, and it was also revealed that they had prepared for the crime in advance, such as conducting a preliminary visit to the Incheon Airport terminal the day before the crime.
