The Incheon International Airport Police announced on the 26th that they were arresting and investigating Mr. A, a Chinese man in his 30s, on charges of special robbery.

Mr. A is accused of stealing a bag of money from Mr. C, a Chinese trader in his 40s, along with his accomplice, Mr. B, a Chinese man in his 30s, in front of the departure hall on the 3rd floor of Incheon International Airport Passenger Terminal 1 at around 7:12 am on the 20th.

After spraying Mr. C’s face, they took the bag containing $90,000 and fled to Gimpo International Airport on the airport railroad.

Afterwards, Mr. B took a flight from Gimpo Airport around 12 noon on the same day and fled to Shanghai, China, while Mr. A remained in Korea alone, wandering around Daejeon and Gongju, South Chungcheong Province, and was arrested by the police in Incheon the day before, five days after the crime.

When Mr. A was arrested, a Chinese acquaintance in his 50s who was accompanying him in a vehicle was also arrested on charges of eluding a criminal.

During the police investigation, Mr. A claimed, “I exchanged $50,000 of the $90,000 and sent it to Mr. B, who went to China.”

Mr. C, who entered Korea on the 17th, is known to have kept a lot of money in his bag because he was working as a trader selling cosmetics.

It was discovered that Mr. A and Mr. B entered the country through Incheon Airport the day after Mr. C entered the country.

The police believe that Mr. A and others had planned the crime in advance and plan to apply for an arrest warrant this afternoon.

A police official said, “There are circumstances in which the crime was planned, including a preliminary visit to the Incheon International Airport terminal the day before the crime,” and added, “We plan to track down the accomplice who fled to China by requesting a red notice from Interpol.”
