On the 26th, President Yoon Seok-yeol nominated Oh Dong-woon (55, 27th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute), a former judge, as a candidate for the head of the High-ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Office.

Presidential Office Spokesperson Kim Soo-kyung announced the appointment at a briefing that day and said, “We plan to quickly request a personnel hearing from the National Assembly.”

Previously, the National Assembly Corruption Investigation Headquarters Candidate Recommendation Committee recommended Attorney Oh and Lee Myeong-soon (59, 22nd class), a former prosecutor, as the final candidates for the second head of the Corruption Investigation Headquarters in February.

Kim Jin-wook, the first head of the Corruption Investigation Office, retired on January 19, leaving the position of head of the Corruption Investigation Office vacant for about three months.

An official from the Presidential Office said, “The head of the Corruption Investigation Office was in a position that required a National Assembly personnel hearing, so we had to carefully review it,” adding, “It can be seen that the nomination and personnel hearing procedures were carried out taking into account the National Assembly schedule such as elections.”

When asked about the background to the nomination, this official said, ‘The Corruption Investigation Office is investigating the external pressure case in the investigation of Corporal Chae, and the opposition party is demanding a special prosecutor law.’ He said, “The report to the Corruption Investigation Office for the Corporal Chae case was made last September when the former head of the Corruption Investigation Office was in office. He said, “I understand that the investigation is ongoing and that the Special Prosecutor Act was proposed in September of last year, unrelated to the Corruption Investigation Office investigation,” adding, “Therefore, I think it is unfair to link the nomination of the head of the Corruption Investigation Office with the Special Prosecutor Act.”

He continued, “I understand that criticism has been raised in some quarters that it is too late in the process of reviewing candidates for the head of the Corruption Investigation Office and that it is neutralizing the investigation, but I don’t think it is a fair criticism to criticize the fact that the appointment of the head of the Corruption Investigation Office is being done to hinder the investigation.” .

Attorney Oh entered public service as a reserve judge at the Busan District Court in 1998, and served as a judge at the Seoul High Court, a judge dispatched to the Constitutional Court, chief judge at the Ulsan District Court, and chief judge at the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Court.
