[경기도 세계타임즈=송민수 기자] Gyeonggi Provincial Council Chairman Yeom Jong-hyun attended the 3rd regular meeting of the ‘National Airport Noise Countermeasures Special Committee’ of the Korea City and Provincial Council held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Council on the 26th, emphasizing the need for realistic support for areas and residents affected by airport noise and encouraging the activities of the special committee.

The ‘National Airport Noise Countermeasures Special Committee’ under the Korea City and Provincial Council Chairman’s Association is a committee of metropolitan councils across the country formed in June last year to jointly respond to the nationwide airport noise problem. On this day, it visited the provincial council and held its 3rd regular meeting to discuss ‘Airport noise prevention and A proposal to amend the ‘Act on Support for Noise Countermeasure Areas’ was discussed.

Chairman Yeom Jong-hyeon said at the meeting, “Bucheon City, where I live, is also an area that suffers a lot from airport noise. “In the past, we have witnessed unfortunate cases of residents in nearby areas migrating en masse due to extreme noise,” he said. “The damage caused by airport noise and related regulations is more serious than is known on the surface, but research and data on this are still insufficient. “Current laws and support measures are also insufficient to compensate for realistic damage,” he pointed out.

At the same time, he said, “The National Assembly must follow the National Assembly, the government must run the government, and our metropolitan councils must find the optimal measures in their own paths and improve regulations that are inconsistent with reality.” He added, “The special committee on airport noise measures must be established.” He emphasized, “If you convey the need for law revision through various channels, including the Central and Local Cooperation Council, we will definitely achieve great results.”

Meanwhile, at the 3rd regular meeting of the National Airport Noise Countermeasures Special Committee on this day, Special Committee Chairman Kim Hwang-guk (Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Council), Woo Hyeong-chan (Seoul City Council), Choi Hak-beom (Gyeongnam Provincial Council), Shin Young-hee (Incheon City Council) Vice-Chairmen, Myung Jin (Gwangju City Council), and An Gyeong-ja (Daejeon City Council) members, as well as special committee members of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, Hong Won-gil (People Power Party, Gimpo 1) and Park Sang-hyeon (Democratic Party of Korea, Bucheon 8) attended.
