“ The investigative agency provided a sufficient response. ….”

Legal Affairs Officer Yoo is a key figure who appears throughout the entire process of suspicion of external pressure in the Marine Corporal Chae case.

On July 31st of last year, former Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop was pointed out as having called the head of the Marine Corps investigation team after withholding the Marine Corps’ transfer of the case to the police and telling him to ‘remove the suspect and the details of the charges.’

On August 2 last year, the Marine Corps Investigation Team was accused of calling and negotiating with an executive at the Gyeongbuk Police Agency while retrieving case records that had been transferred to the police.

When the Ministry of National Defense’s investigation headquarters reexamined the case after the incident was recovered, it was recommended to reduce the number of suspects from eight to two.

It is said that the Corruption Investigation Office asked Legal Affairs Manager Yoo under whose instructions he was involved in each process and why he spoke to Secretary Lee Si-won on the day of the records retrieval.

The Corruption Investigation Office, which summoned key suspects for the first time since the search and seizure last January, is also coordinating the investigation schedule with Park Kyung-hoon, former acting head of the Ministry of National Defense’s investigation headquarters, who reviewed the investigation records.

Based on this investigation, the Corruption Investigation Office is expected to summon and interrogate key suspects in turn, including Marine Corps Commander Kim Gye-hwan and former Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop.
