A video was released on SNS saying that a swarm of insects believed to be cockroaches appeared in a manhole on a road near Gangnam Station amid heavy rain from the 8th. The Gangnam-gu Office and Seocho-gu Office said that there were no complaints.

Since the 8th, a 10-second video titled ‘Real-time Gangnam Station Cockroach Haunting’ has been released on social media such as YouTube and Twitter. The video contained dozens of bugs that came up through a manhole on a raining road, and this video was shared under the title ‘Gangnam Station Cockroaches’.

Netizens were shocked by reactions such as “It’s like a scene from an abnormal climate disaster movie” and “The sewer backflowed and cockroaches came out of the manhole.”

However, it is unclear whether this scene was actually filmed near Gangnam Station.

An official from Gangnam-gu Office said through E-Daily, “As a result of checking with the relevant department, so far, no complaints have been received about cockroaches and pests due to sewer backflow.” said.

The Seocho-gu Office, which is in charge of the west side of Gangnam Station, also said that there were no complaints about pests found until this day.

Earlier, in Seoul, heavy rains of more than 90 mm per hour centered on the Gangnam area since the 8th, which paralyzed parts of Seoul with many low-lying areas, such as Gangnam-gu, Seocho-gu, and Guro-gu, and caused inconvenience to citizens.

The Korea Meteorological Administration has predicted that heavy rain will continue until the 12th and urged special attention.
