President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife arrived in London, England.
The first part of our schedule was to meet local compatriots.
″Today, Korea and the United Kingdom are partners in the universal values of freedom, human rights and the rule of law, and an economic community connected by a free trade market.″
A welcoming ceremony for the British royal family will be held today.
After being welcomed by Crown Princess William and his wife, President Yoon and his wife move to the official welcome ceremony, where royal events such as a gun salute, inspection, and carriage parade will follow.
President Yoon also visited the Korean War Memorial and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to pay tribute to the sacrifices of British soldiers who participated in the Korean War, and delivered a speech at the British Parliament.
During his visit to the UK, he is also scheduled to hold a summit with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the British Prime Minister’s official residence at 10 Downing Street, where the two countries are expected to adopt the ‘Downing Street Agreement’.
″The Downing Agreement, also known as DSA, which elevated the relationship between the two countries to a global strategic partnership, was concluded as the highest level of cooperation document that the two countries can sign.″
What is noteworthy is the decision to promote cooperation in the fields of defense and security, such as expanding joint training to respond to cyber threats and promoting joint maritime patrols to enforce Security Council sanctions against North Korea.
The President’s Office gave significance to the Downing Agreement adopted this time, saying that it can comprehensively expand the horizon of cooperation not only in security and defense but also in economic fields such as science and technology and supply chain.
