President Yoon said, “Today, Korea and the United Kingdom are partners in the universal values of freedom, human rights, and the rule of law, and an economic community connected by the free trade market.” “We will continue to build it,” he said.
He went on to say, “We will resume negotiations to revise the Korea-UK FTA to further solidify the foundation for cooperation in supply chains and trade,” adding, “The horizons of cooperation between the two countries will be expanded to advanced science and technology fields such as AI, nuclear power, bio, space, semiconductors, and clean energy.” “We will also significantly expand it,” he emphasized.
President Yoon emphasized that this year marks the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and the United Kingdom, supporting the independence movement, and recalling the dispatch of 80,000 troops to protect the freedom of the Republic of Korea during the Korean War. He mentioned that since the 1970s, as Korean companies have actively entered the UK, there is currently a community of 40,000 Koreans residing in the UK.
