It is known that medical school professors will begin resigning from today.

Concerns about a medical gap are growing.

The government-led medical reform special committee held its first meeting today.

However, the special committee drew the line that there were no plans to discuss ‘the specific number of medical school increases.’

As expected, the medical group did not attend.

First meeting of the President’s Special Committee on Medical Reform.

A total of 24 people, including government members from 6 ministries including the Ministry of Health and Welfare and experts from various fields, participated.

However, the special committee stated that it does not address the “scale of medical school expansion,” which is the core of the legislative conflict.

″It is possible to discuss the overall framework, but there are currently no plans to discuss specific medical school seats…″

There are four medical reform tasks emphasized by the special committee.

First, we will discuss the introduction of a national responsibility system for resident training to improve the quality of resident training, strengthen compensation for severe and essential medical care, divide the roles of medical institutions according to severity, and establish a medical accident safety net.

″We must quickly pursue high-priority tasks so that the results of medical reform can be felt by the public and the medical field…″

The Medical Association, the Resident Council, and the Korean Medical Association did not participate in the medical reform special committee.

The Medical Association is not giving up on its existing position that discussions on medical school quotas come first.

″We believe that discussion itself is meaningless unless the issue of increasing the number of medical school students, which is currently the most sharply contested issue, is resolved.″

The National Medical School Professors Council emphasized that the resignation letters that began to be submitted a month ago will take effect from today.

Although there is no clear resignation movement yet, concerns about the medical gap have grown.

Discontinuation of treatment is also a reality.

Among the ‘Big 5’ hospitals in the metropolitan area, medical school professors at four hospitals, including Seoul National University, Asan, Samsung, and Severance, decided to take a break once a week.
