When North Korean Chairman Kim Jong-un visited Kim Il-sung Military University on the 25th, he accompanied a procession of luxury vehicles including six Japanese Toyota SUVs.
On the 26th, NK News, an American media specializing in North Korea, reported that this was captured in a video aired on North Korea’s Korean Central Television the previous day.
NK reported that among the 18 vehicles in the procession, there were 6 ‘Toyota Land Cruiser 300’ models with the brand logo removed and warning lights attached.
Toyota Land Cruiser is a model produced starting in 2021, and the price per unit starts at $80,000 (about 110 million won).
It is believed that the vehicle in question was used by bodyguards when Chairman Kim visited Kim Il-sung Military University for the 92nd anniversary of the founding of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army.
The motorcade also included two Mercedes-Benz Maybach GLS 600 SUVs, two Lexus LX SUVs, two Ford Transit vans, five older Mercedes-Benz sedans, and one older SUV.
In addition, there was the Aurus limousine, the ‘Russian version of Rolls-Royce’, which Russian President Vladimir Putin gave as a gift at the beginning of the year.
NK News pointed out that this shows that North Korea is able to bypass the ban on automobile imports imposed by the UN Security Council sanctions.
