On the 26th, the Jeonggwanjang volleyball team announced, “‘Captain Song’ Han Song-i is retiring from active duty.”

Han Song-i, who joined the Korea Expressway Corporation as the first overall pick in the 2002 rookie draft before graduating from Hanil Jeonsan Girls’ High School, received the Super League Rookie of the Year Award in the 2002-2003 season.

In the 2007-2008 season, when he played as a wing striker, he became the top scorer (692 points). While foreign players are sweeping the title of top scorer, the title of top scorer among domestic players is Han Song-i’s unrivaled title.

After joining Jeong Kwan-Jang, he transformed into a middle blocker and enjoyed his second heyday by showing off his outstanding volleyball intelligence, including being selected as one of the best 7 for two consecutive seasons in the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons. After wearing his Taegeuk mark several times, he contributed to the ‘four-finals legend’ at the 2012 London Olympics along with his older sister Han Yu-mi (42).

Han Song-i, who is the younger sister of Han Yu-mi, who is currently working as a commentator for a broadcasting company and is also famous as a ‘sister volleyball player,’ said, “It was a dream-like time. “I was happy with the overwhelming love I received from CheongKwanJang over the past seven years,” he said. “Thanks to my loving family and the fans who always supported me, I was able to enjoy my career as a player. “I will greet her fans again in a good way,” she said of her retirement.

Jeong Kwan-Jang plans to hold a retirement ceremony for Han Song-i during the home opener of the upcoming 2024-2025 season.
