Professional baseball’s Hanwha Eagles set a new record of selling out 13 consecutive games for the first time in the KBO League. It broke a 29-year-old record.

Since the home opening, 11 consecutive games have been sold out. Since last year’s final game, they have broken the club’s record with a full crowd for 12 consecutive games, and have tied the record for the largest number of spectators among all KBO League clubs.

As of 6:48 p.m., Hanwha’s home game against the Doosan Bears in the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League held at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon on the 26th was full of all 12,000 seats.

As a result, Hanwha started with the final game of the season against Lotte on October 16th of last year, followed by a home opening three-game series against KT on the 29th and 31st of last month, a game against Lotte on the 2nd and 4th, a game against KIA on the 12th and 14th, and a game against Samsung on the 19th and 21st. The sellout streak continued for 13 consecutive games.

Selling out 13 consecutive games is a new record in KBO League history. Samsung filled the Daegu Citizen Baseball Stadium for 12 consecutive games, from the Ssangbangul match on May 9, 1995, to the first game of the doubleheader against Haitai on June 1, 1995. 29 years later, Hanwha changed the record in Daejeon.

This year, Hanwha is at the center of the KBO League’s success. Ahead of the season, major leaguer Ryu Hyun-jin made a huge splash with his return after 12 years, and fan sentiment exploded with the club’s best start in history with 8 wins and 2 losses in the opening 10 games. It was such a hit that not only the weekend series but also the weekday night games were sold out twice.

Although Hanwha has shown a sharp decline with 3 wins and 14 losses in the last 17 games and has fallen to 8th place in the rankings, Daejeon spectators are continuing to show their support. This is a part where you can see the single-mindedness of the fans regardless of their grades.

If the performance improves to a certain degree, Hanwha can expect the largest sell-out and crowd mobilization in the club’s history. In 2015, the first year of coach Kim Seong-geun’s tenure and a baseball boom, he set a club record with 21 sellouts.

In 2018, the last fall baseball season, 20 home games were sold out and a total audience of 734,110 was attracted. This is the only season in which the average number of spectators exceeded 10,000 (10,196), and there is a tendency to exceed this in the final year of Eagles Park ahead of the relocation to the new stadium.

As of today, Hanwha is leading the KBO League’s success by playing 18 of the 28 games, including 12 home games and 6 away games, in front of a full crowd. /[email protected]
