US IT media ‘Phone Arena’ reported on the 23rd (local time) that Apple has discontinued production of cases made of fine woven materials. Fine woven cases are made for expensive premium mobile phones, and Apple is expected to try producing cases using other materials next year.

Fine woven cases were the material used by Apple instead of leather for cell phone cases and Apple Watch straps. Existing cases and straps are made of leather, but carbon emissions can be reduced by making them using fine woven fabric.
So far, Apple has put a lot of effort into recycling resources and reducing carbon in the manufacturing process. They regularly publish environmental reports as long as 100 pages.
However, there was a lot of controversy among consumers regarding the ‘quality’ of the fine woven case. The IT media ‘The Verge’ reported that many people pointed out that the fine woven case looked dirty compared to the leather case, and that the protective performance was also poor.

In the end, the popularity of fine woven cases continued to decline, and Apple appears to have decided to discontinue production. Bloomberg News harshly criticized Finewoven, calling it “the biggest failure of the year” and saying, “Apple’s noble efforts for eco-friendliness are in the worst crisis.”
Price is also an obstacle. The price of the fine woven case on Apple’s website is 85,000 won in Korea, which far exceeds the price of most mobile phone cases.
