Epic Games Korea, the Korean subsidiary of Epic Games, announced on the 24th that it has officially released Unreal Engine 5.4, a new update to Unreal Engine that provides new features and improvements for game developers and creators in all industries.

This Unreal Engine 5.4 update, which has been thoroughly tested during Epic Games’ own development process, includes new features and improvements in areas such as animation, rendering, media and entertainment, developer iteration improvements, and cloth simulation.

In the animation sector, Unreal Engine’s basic animation tool set has been significantly updated for character rigging and animation production. You no longer have to waste time fiddling with multiple external applications.

In the rendering section, a new function ‘tessellation’ was added. It allows adding fine details such as cracks and bumps to ‘Nanite’, Unreal Engine 5’s virtualized micropolygon geometry system, when rendering without changing the original mesh.

The Deer and Entertainment section introduced a new ‘Motion Design’ mode consisting of specialized tools for creating complex 2D motion graphics in motion graphics. Designed to provide motion designers with an improved user experience and continuous productivity, it provides a comprehensive toolset including 3D cloners, effectors, modifiers, animators, and more.

In the area of improving developer iteration, ‘Unreal Cloud DDC’, a self-hosted cloud storage system for Unreal Engine Derived Data Cache (DDC), has been newly added.

In cloth simulation, a new USD importer was added to the panel cloth editor as a result of the collaboration between Epic Games and CLO Virtual Fashion. You can now import clothing and simulation parameters from Marvelous Designer or CLO to configure simulations in real time in just minutes.

Meanwhile, Epic Games Korea will be holding a related webinar at 2pm on the 21st of next month to commemorate the release of the new Unreal Engine 5.4. It will be broadcast on the Epic Lounge and the Unreal Engine YouTube channel, and Unreal Engine experts will directly explain major features and updates in detail.
