Blizzard suddenly canceled this year’s BlizzCon, its gaming event. Instead, participate in other events or host e-sports events.

Blizzard announced on its website on the 26th that it had decided not to hold BlizzCon, which was scheduled to be held in November this year. As it is an event with special meaning, the decision was not made lightly, and the decision was made after careful consideration over the past year.

Instead of canceling BlizzCon, Blizzard announced that it would participate in other events. Blizzard said, “This year, we want to approach things a little differently. “We have held events in a unique format in the past,” he said, revealing plans to participate in future events.

First, he mentioned that he plans to deliver information about ‘World of Warcraft: Internal War’, which will be released in the second half of this year, and ‘Vessel of Hatred’, the first expansion pack for ‘Diablo 4’, over the next few months.

In addition, they announced that they would participate in various events, including Gamescom, to commemorate the release of a new game that will be released soon and to provide a venue for community exchange and harmony. In addition, there are plans to hold events commemorating the 30th anniversary of ‘Overwatch Champions Series’ and ‘Warcraft’ within the game. In other words, the policy is to hold small events for individual games rather than one large event.

Blizzard’s decision appears to have been influenced by Microsoft’s acquisition and the evaluation of BlizzCon held last year. BlizzCon was held until 2019, but was not held for three years due to the impact of COVID-19, and was held at the Anaheim Convention Center in 2023 for the first time in four years.

However, at this event, only expansion content for existing games was revealed, and there were no new games or surprise news, so it did not receive good reviews overall. Therefore, speculation is being raised that the event itself may have been canceled because there were no major new games to be unveiled at this year’s BlizzCon.

In addition, Microsoft is trying to improve its finances by laying off as many as 1,900 game-related personnel at Activision Blizzard and Xbox earlier this year. As it costs a lot of money to hold a large event, some are saying that this may have influenced the cancellation of the event.
