[파이낸셜뉴스] LG Electronics is accelerating its business-to-business (B2B) business by distributing the world’s first smart hotel TV equipped with ‘Apple AirPlay’ to hotels in North America. LG Electronics CEO Jo Joo-wan, who pointed out the B2B business as LG Electronics’ future growth engine, is expected to accelerate the expansion of B2B sales this year, focusing on commercial TV.

According to the industry and foreign media on the 26th, LG Electronics recently supplied smart hotel TVs equipped with AirPlay, Apple’s wireless content sharing technology, to 60 hotels in North America belonging to IHG Hotels & Resorts, a global hotel company.

LG Electronics’ latest smart hotel TV models offer AirPlay right out of the box, and older models can add this feature through a software update.

Commercial TVs equipped with AirPlay further enhance users’ content convenience. When a hotel guest scans the QR code on the TV screen in the room with an Apple device such as an iPhone, the two devices are immediately connected without any additional process. Through this, you can enjoy content such as videos, photos, and music that you enjoyed on your personal device on the large screen of the hotel TV. Streaming services can also be controlled or shared.

In particular, LG Electronics paid special attention to security by ensuring that all content shared on smart hotel TVs is kept private. When a hotel guest checks out, all linked information stored on the TV is deleted. It is safer in terms of information security than having customers enter their ID and password into the hotel TV’s online video service (OTT) app.

LG is a major TV supplier in the U.S. lodging industry and ranks first in market share in the global hotel TV market. Currently, LG Electronics is making B2B business a new axis for its sluggish TV business by providing a variety of commercial smart hotel TVs, including 43 to 75 inches with up to 4K UHD resolution, suitable for various spaces from general rooms to penthouse suites.

Some interpret this move as Apple and LG Electronics strengthening their alliance in the commercial TV market through AirPlay, a wireless content sharing technology.

An industry official said, “While the performance of the TV business fluctuates depending on the global economic situation, LG Electronics is using the software platform WebOS and B2B business as a breakthrough,” adding, “The commercial TV market is expanding in various places such as hospitals, schools, and hotels.” “It is expected to emerge as a new battleground in the TV industry,” he said.

Meanwhile, LG Electronics achieved its highest-ever sales last year, with its main businesses, including home appliances, showing solid performance and the growth of its B2B business growing.
