“US prepares to ship weapons worth 1.4 trillion won to Ukraine”

While the U.S. support budget for Ukraine, which has been adrift for about six months, is expected to pass Congress on the 23rd (local time), it is said that the U.S. is already preparing to ship weapons worth $1 billion (about 1.37 trillion won). Reuters reported this day.

In order to be able to send weapons as soon as the support budget is approved by the Senate and House of Representatives and signed by the President, the United States is sending military vehicles, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, rockets for the High-Movement Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), 155mm artillery shells, and TOW. It was reported that they were preparing weapons worth $1 billion, including anti-tank missiles.

These weapons are ones that Ukraine can immediately use on the battlefield against Russian invasion.

Politico, a U.S. political media outlet, cited U.S. officials and reported that additional Bradley fighting vehicles would be provided to Ukraine.

The Bradley armored vehicle is known to surpass Russian armored vehicles in terms of firepower and mobility.

Ukraine’s stance is that combat armored vehicles are urgently needed for future counterattacks.

U.S. officials said that older Humvee vehicles, M113 armored vehicles, and missiles are also expected to be included in the support.

U.S. President Joe Biden promised a quick supply of weapons in a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the 22nd, two days after the Ukraine aid budget passed the U.S. House of Representatives.

Celeste Wallander, the U.S. assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs, recently told lawmakers that aid to Ukraine could be delivered within a week or two after the budget is approved.

On the 20th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a support budget bill worth $60.8 billion (approximately 84 trillion won) for Ukraine.

This was part of an external security package bill worth a total of $95 billion (approximately 131 trillion won), which also includes support budgets for Israel, Taiwan, etc.

Following the House, the Senate is expected to process the security support budget bill as early as the 23rd, and it is reported that President Biden plans to sign it immediately once these bills pass the Congress and are transferred to the White House.
