A video of a Chinese man caught peeping into a public women’s restroom being assaulted by his mother while being questioned by police is going viral on social media.

According to Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 24th (local time), Mr. A, a man from Hubei Province in central China, was interrogated by the police on the 5th in connection with peeping into a public women’s restroom at his home. SCMP reported that when his mother found out what Mr. A had done, she became furious and criticized him.

When the police asked Mr. A, “Do you know why we are here?”, Mr. A replied, “I have no idea.”

Afterwards, another police officer showed a video to Mr. A. This video was filmed on a smartphone by a woman who saw Mr. A crouching on the floor of the women’s bathroom. When she realized that Mr. A had run out of her bathroom, the woman reported Mr. A to the police.

The police asked Mr. A again, “Are you the person in the women’s bathroom on the third floor of the dormitory?” Mr. A, who watched this video, finally answered “yes.”

As soon as she heard Mr. A’s answer, the mother walked over to where Mr. A was sitting and slapped him repeatedly on the cheek. While the police officers restrained her angry mother, Ms. A simply maintained her silence.

The mother said to Mr. A, “You can’t change. “She keeps repeating herself,” she said, kicking him. Then she asked her son, “Are you going to kill me because you’re angry?”

Mr. A eventually got up from the chair, knelt in front of his mother, and said, “I was wrong. “I’m sorry,” she apologized. The officers helped Ms. A, handcuffed her and took her to the police station.

The video was shared online, sparking outrage from netizens. Reactions such as “It is worse if he is a repeat offender”, “In this case, it is right for the mother to hit her son”, “Mom will be very sad”, etc.

In China, staring at another person is a misdemeanor. Typically, administrative detention of up to 10 days and a fine of up to 200 yuan (about 38,000 won) are imposed.
