Iran imposes sanctions after attack on Israeli mainland

Foreign media such as the Jerusalem Post and Politico reported that the United States, Britain, and Canada imposed new sanctions on Iran for attacking mainland Israel on the 25th (local time).

According to reports, the U.S. State Department announced in a statement on this day that it had placed sanctions on 16 organizations, 8 individuals, 5 ships, and 1 aircraft involved in Iran’s unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) trade.

In relation to this, the State Department reported that the sanctions target includes Sahara Thunder, a company that helped Iran’s Ministry of Defense Logistics (MODAFL) procure drones. It is reported that the drones developed by Sahara Thunder were supplied to Russia, which is at war with Ukraine.

Additionally, the State Department explained in a statement that the United Kingdom and Canada have also imposed sanctions on several entities and individuals involved in the procurement of Iranian drones and other military activities.

On the 25th, the British Foreign Office announced that it had imposed sanctions on individuals and companies deeply involved in drone production to deal a blow to Iran’s drone and missile industry.

The two individuals subject to sanctions have their assets in the UK frozen and are banned from entering the country. The British Foreign Office explained that assets of four companies will also be frozen.

“The Iranian regime’s dangerous attacks on Israel could have resulted in thousands of civilian casualties and placed the region at wider risk,” British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said in a statement after announcing the sanctions. “It sent a clear message that those responsible for destabilizing actions will be held accountable.”

The British government said it would soon announce sanctions banning the export of components used in Iran’s drone and missile production.

These sanctions are a response to Iran’s airstrike on mainland Israel using drones and missiles on the 13th.

The United States and Britain also announced sanctions targeting Iranian drone production last week. The U.S. Treasury initially imposed sanctions on individuals and companies involved in Iran’s drone production. However, it did not target Iran’s oil industry.
