Anyangcheon Sinmok-dong Station Waterside Revitalization Center Construction Design Competition, Architectural Firm Inyu Wins

The outline of the ‘Anyangcheon Big Deck’, which Yangcheon-gu is planning to use along the Anyangcheon River near Sinmok-dong Station as a waterside cultural community space, has been drawn. As a related procedure, the winning design contest for the creation of a waterfront revitalization base at Anyangcheon Shinmok-dong Station, which has been held since February, is a plan by ‘Architect Office Enew’ that proposed a three-dimensional deck and excellent use of water barriers.

The waterfront vitality hub creation project is a part of the ‘Seoul-type waterfront emotional city’ first announced by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in 2022. The city first designated four locations in downtown Seoul and then ran a contest for autonomous districts. In April 2023, Yangcheon-gu was selected in the contest, and the district was able to secure 3 billion won in city funds. At that time, as a result of the contest, a total of 16 locations, including Anyangcheon Stream, were added to the target area.

The district expanded the existing bike lounge to a two-story building, taking advantage of accessibility to public transportation and the location of the waterside ecological axis, and established a complex facility consisting of a cafe, convenience store, activity space, deck walkway, etc. to expand resident convenience and leisure facilities and create a new space. The plan is to revitalize the local economy by creating a place where people can enjoy experiences.

Architectural firm Lee New’s design focuses on the bike lounge, which has been neglected so far, and reconnects people with the Anyang Riverside by reviving the program. Therefore, a variable water barrier connects the city and the river, connects the urban space level and the river level with a deck, and connects nearby facilities, waterside walking paths, and bicycle paths. This three-dimensional composition stands out as a new attraction and reveals the advantage of securing abundant space and external views, and the idea of using the water blocking wall also stands out.
