Elon Musk: “Optimus robot will start selling next year”

Foreign media outlets including Electrek reported on the 23rd (local time) that Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that mass production and sales of the humanoid robot ‘Optimus’ could begin next year.

Musk revealed the release date of the Optimus robot along with the first quarter earnings announcement.

He revealed that the Optimus robot is already performing factory work in the lab, and explained that it will be used to perform actual work in the Tesla factory within this year. Additionally, Tesla said it could begin selling the Optimus robot to external customers by the end of 2025.

“Optimus will be worth more than everything else combined,” Musk said, adding that Tesla will have Optimus doing “useful work” around its factories by the end of the year.

At the end of last year, Tesla unveiled the ‘Optimus 2nd generation’, which reduces weight, increases walking speed, and uses flexible movements compared to the previous generation. The second-generation robot showed many improvements compared to the previous version, and in particular, the robot’s arm and leg movements were greatly improved.
