A woman in the UK is causing controversy after revealing McDonald’s hamburgers that she had stored for a year.

On the 24th (local time), the New York Post and others reported, “A video posted by British herbalist Naa Azellie Coffanier in February has recently become a hot topic.” The video was viewed over 300 million times within two months of being posted.

Chopanier purchased McDonald’s signature Big Mac burger and French fries on February 2nd last year. He has been conducting experiments where he puts food on a plate and observes how it changes over time.

In the video, he disassembled each Big Mac burger that had been stored for a year and three weeks to check its condition. The Big Mac seemed to have lost some of its moisture, but other than that, it was in similar condition to the one I received when I purchased it. Even though it had been stored for over a year, it showed no signs of mold or rot.

Chopanie held up the cabbage attached to the patty and said, “It’s still green. “It hasn’t completely dried out, so it retains some moisture,” he explained. He then asked, “How is this possible?” and “How can lettuce, which has no roots, is not watered, and is not exposed to sunlight, maintain its color?” He said, “Even vegetables that grow turn brown and dry out if they are not properly managed.”

Netizens who saw this said, “Even the bacteria don’t seem to eat that burger,” “Lettuce in the refrigerator turns brown in two days,” “I’m probably still digesting a hamburger that cost 35 cents in 1995,” and “Even the patty is fine.” Comments such as There were many opinions that it did not rot because a lot of preservatives were added.

This is not the first time that McDonald’s hamburgers have become a hot topic because they do not rot. In 2022, an American man shared a photo saying, “I bought a Big Mac 5 years ago and it was still intact,” and that year, an Australian man also shared a photo on Twitter (now .

Before that, in 2019, an Icelander revealed McDonald’s hamburgers and French fries that he had been storing since 2009. Cheeseburgers and French fries that have not rotted for over 10 years are treated as ‘historical relics’ in Iceland and have even been displayed at the country’s national museum.

Regarding this, McDonald’s claimed in a 2020 statement that it was not because of preservatives, saying, “A dry environment that inhibits the growth of mold and bacteria prolongs the life of the burger.” McDonald’s said, “You will see similar results if you leave the food prepared at home in the same condition,” and added, “The burger you are looking at is likely dried. “It is never in the same condition as the day it was purchased.”
